Since you only have to stick this contact mic on the fiddle it is easy to try without damaging the instrument. Not as feedback resistant as a piezo but far more than a mic. What a surprise!!!!!!! Not a miced sound of course but gone were all those nasty scratching harsh frequencies. All of them! Also the expensive ones!Ģ years ago I took a AKG C411 (phantom powered) I had for a long time and put it just behind the bridge. Also if you listen to all those youtube vids about fiddle pickups you hear they sound awful. I tried different kind of preamps, EQs, FX and multi FX pedals. And it will change the sound from room to room. It shouldn't be up to you to compensate for such misers, but if you want a catch-all solution in your kit, spring for a Baggs DI.Ī mic sounds best but has obvious disadvantages. The Fishman will sound better with its matching pre-amp.especially if the pickup is properly (read professionally) installed. ZiggyYet another case of a consumer cheaping out and buying half a system. This is all going to be dependent upon the violin itself and the musician. You will get a better sound with an AMT, Beta 98, or some other miniature condenser, like a lapel. That pickup sucks and violins were not meant to be mic'd directly, much less mic's that way. You are not going to fix the sound with a preamp, and you sure are not going to get a rich sound with a piezo. Does it sound good there? No? Well there you go. I've read about this unit, seems solid enough and if I 'm happy not to expect any tube 'magic', I think this could be the tool for the job.Īny opinions on the above / recommendations gratefully received. Just this morning I've seen the Alesis mictube duo in good condition for £40 in a second hand store closeby. I was looking at the Fishman pres, the g11 I think it is, also the fishman aura Di sound modelling system looks nice but perhaps that is getting towards the upper end of the budget. I've been doing sound at some small gigs thru a cheap desk and there is A violinist using a fishman v100 piezo.Īs you can imagine it sounds a bit thin going straight in to the line in.Ĭan any of you recommend a reasonable preamp at a good price to bring up the signal a bit? I'm looking for your valued opinion on the following:
